Indian and Islamic Art Week

20th October, 2023 - 27th October, 2023

To celebrate London’s Indian and Islamic Week, Prahlad Bubbar is delighted to present a selection of masterworks from Mughal India.

A highlight is a rare 17th century export embroidery panel from Gujarat made for the walls of Ashburnham Place, an English manor house. Examples of the same textile are at the V&A in London and The Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Also on view is an exquisite jade dagger from the Mughal court with a sculpted hilt in the form of a horse’s head, conveying the artisan’s mastery in craftsmanship as well as his keen understanding of the natural world. Its virtuosity in execution strongly suggests that it was created by a master lapidarist in the imperial Mughal workshop, under the reign of Shah Jahan.
